Congregations working together is God’s idea for how the Church can truly be the body of Christ. It is a powerful witness to our city of God’s reality. We aim to move beyond theoretical unity to relationships of trust and tangible cooperation; working and learning together, unity within diversity.
Our annual collaborative events help us practically live out our calling to be churches together for the good of the city. The list below will give you an overview and first steps to getting involved!
Start2Finish Backpacks: August 2017
At the start of each school year our congregations partner with Start2Finish to raise funds for, pack, and distribute backpacks to students in need through the Hamilton school boards. This event has given our churches the opportunity to establish and deepen relationships with local schools in their neighbourhoods. We will begin to organize for this event in May. If your congregation is interested, contact Paul Havercroft at email@example.com.
Ride for Refuge: Saturday September 30, 2017
TrueCity partners with Blue Sea Philanthropy to host the Hamilton Ride for Refuge each October. The Ride is a multisite fundraiser with thousands of riders, supporting refugees, orphans, victims of human trafficking, and more. If you or your congregation is interested, you can learn more at rideforrefuge.com or contact Jill Trites at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Christmas Hampers: December 2017
TrueCity congregations distribute boxes of food each Christmas. By doing this collaboratively, we learn from one another’s experience and better utilize the mix of gifts and resources our different churches have. This past year eleven churches worked together to distribute over 500 hampers. We will begin organizing for Christmas 2015 in September, if your congregation is interested, contact Dave Witt at email@example.com.
TrueCity Conference: February 26th & 27th, 2016
The TrueCity Conference is our yearly gathering where our churches come together to celebrate what God is doing among us, and learn from one another. If your congregation is interested in helping make the conference a reality next year, contact Dave Witt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
24/7 Prayer Room: February 26th – March 12th, 2016
The two weeks following the conference, the 24/7 Prayer Room is set up to cultivate all kinds of prayer expressions to help focus our prayers on specific issues or neighbourhoods in the city. Done in collaboration with the Greater Ontario House of Prayer (GOHOP), it provides opportunities for our congregations to go deeper into our prayer lives. To help set up a prayer station or become a “doorkeeper”, contact Jill Weber at email@example.com.
Spring CrossCulture: April 2nd, 2016
Spring CrossCulture brings high school students together in downtown Hamilton to worship and serve alongside local mission organizations. Annually, we connect 200 students to 25 community partners and have seen meaningful and ongoing connections flourish between our young adults and local mission.
