School Supplies and School Connections
TrueCity is celebrating another Fall of working with Start2Finish to provide backpacks to over 1000 students in the Hamilton Catholic and Public School systems! Not only does this annual volunteer effort provide vital school supplies to children from low-income families, but it gives our churches the chance to better engage with their local schools. Each of the twelve participating TrueCity churches were paired with a school in their neighbourhood. As volunteers dropped off the backpacks, they got to meet with the school staff and thank them for all the (often unappreciated) work they do for our city’s children. A group from Grindstone Church who meets to pray in the Sherman Hub got to bring cookies for the teachers of Adelaide Hoodless who were setting up their classrooms for the year, and had the chance to pray over and encourage their school and staff. The backpack drop off is a fun and practical serve event, but it also can lead to a relationship between churches and schools, letting schools know that churches are there to support and bless them.
Thank you to Bethany, The Commons, Grindstone, Hughson St, Lightway, Meeting House East, Meeting House West, New City, Mount Hamilton, Philpott, Wentworth, Immanuel CRC, and everyone else who came out to pack or deliver backpacks! Please pray for continued opportunities for churches to bless their neighborhood schools. See you next year!
