Abiding in the Vine

Since last summer, the GOHOP team has been praying in various “prayer spaces” around the city of Hamilton and in Flamborough. We have so appreciated the hospitality of various ministries, including Hughson St. Baptist, and Youth Unlimited, but we were longing for a permanent location where we could set up a space for ongoing prayer in the downtown core. Slugging guitars, keyboards and hand drums from one location to the next gets a little tiring after a while!

For the last couple of years, we have enjoyed using the Vine (which is owned by Philpott Church) for our weeks of 24/7 prayer for the city.  It’s location, a block away from the library and Jackson Square, and a couple blocks from the Living Rock (where we will be parking the Prayer Truck) is ideal. It is readily accessible and welcoming for folks who might be shy of entering a “church” building. It has all the amenities. So after this year’s prayer event, we approached Philpott to see if they would be interested in letting us use part of the Vine for ongoing prayer.

Much to our delight, they have agreed to donate prayer space to us for the foreseeable future. So in the beginning of May, we are moving our operations completely into the heart of the Hammer! The Vine will be open during the week for individual and corporate prayer.  We will be cultivating all kinds of prayer expressions in the Vine, from contemplative to charismatic to social justice oriented prayer. Every couple of months, we will be displaying a different prayer or art installation, that will help focus our prayers on specific issues or neighborhoods in the city.

Our hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm.  For information on corporate prayer meetings during those times, go to www.gohop.ca and check our calendar.  If you see yourself as a prayer warrior, or if you just love Hamilton as much as we do, we welcome you to come and join us!
